“I NEVER DREAMED I WOULD EVER BE HERE! I MEAN, I DREAMT IT, BUT I NEVER ACTUALLY BELIEVED IT COULD BECOME MY REALITY.”
The words of Makeva as she stood, teary-eyed, under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France during her first study abroad.
Makeva grew up as the oldest of three siblings to a single mother in the St. Bernard projects of New Orleans, La. Her passion for languages and cultures began as a high school freshman, one year after relocating to Jackson, Ms. due to hurricane Katrina.

MAKEVA ARMANT
When Makeva speaks about the root of her passion and the mission she has for Immersed Global, her goal is clear - she desires to be a liaison between students in underserved communities and the global opportunities they lack - just as some of her favorite teachers and professors have been for her.
Makeva is driven by the quote, “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world,” and she is concerned that without access to world languages, neighborhoods like the one in which she grew up will never have access to the world.
“There’s a ton of research on the benefits of learning a second language in the realms of travel, work & business, cultural awareness, mental health, and even self confidence. Why wouldn’t we want to provide this resource to our neighborhoods?”
